Cyprus Airways , the loss making carrier of Cyprus, has been shut down with immediate effect. The airline has received huge subsidies over the past few years which it cannot afford to repay - although it has been ordered to do so. Hopefully an airline like Easyjet or Aegean airlines will take up the missing slots. The main base of Larnaca airport will be effected with a number of job losses as a result.

CYPRUS AIRWAYS IS STILL FLYING ALTHOUGH ALL 3 LONDON HEATHROW LANDING SLOTS HAVE BEEN SOLD RECENTLY FOR MILLIONS OF EURO! THE AIRLINE IS LIVING OFF SUBSIDIES AND IS OPERATING AT A LOSS ... HOW LONG WILL IT SURVIVE... OR WILL RYANAIR OR AEGEAN AIRLINES TAKE THE AIRLINE OVER? THESE AIRLINES ARE SUPPOSSED TO HAVE EXPRESSED AN INTEREST IN CYPRUS AIRWAYS... BUT WHO KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN COME 2015. THERE ARE STILL CYPRUS AIRWAYS PLANES AT LARNACA AIRPORT! EASYJET DOESN'T SEEM TO BE INTERESTED.
